England vs USA
World Cup
11:45am Thursday 26th September
England claimed their next win of the Rugby World Cup from Kobe Misaki Stadium’s sweltering humidity.
England totally dominated their USA counterparts, but it was an underwhelming first half from Eddie Jones’ side, despite scoring three tries with Billy Vunipola, George Ford and Luke Cowan-Dickie going over.
Joe Cokanasiga maintained their fourth try while Lewis Ludlam along with Ruaridh McConnochie went over in the second half.
Even the USA were down to 14 men after John Quill had been red-carded at the 69th minute into Owen Farrell’s head for a shoulder barge.
England could only afford one more try with Cokanasiga claiming his instant, however it was the USA who had the final say with Bryce Campbell going over.
England so were ahead after just five minutes, and pushed the cubes out using Piers Francis setting a huge hit on the scene. Ford went under the posts after a Billy Vunipola carry began a few stages, with space launching for the captain to canter over of England.
England were accountable for rushing , although ford had stated before the match that patience was the key to grinding down the USA and, despite 70 per cent ownership and 80 per cent land, were allowed performed by ill discipline and unforced mistakes.
When Billy Vunipola went from a drive that was switched by Ford for a 14-0 lead their next attempt arrived on the 25th moment.
USA’s scrum was under massive pressurewhen they dropped loosehead prop David Ainu’u early on to harm, and England claimed their third later another scrum penalty. Ford chosen for the corner and the USA had no answer to England’s driving maul with hooker Luke Cowan-Dickie coming up with the ball.
England should have had their own fourth together with all the half coming to knock-on, only to an end with the line.
The tempo materialised at the second as England added their game and rhythm and accuracy.
Cokanasiga did get the bonus-point try in the 47th minute after hands from Kyle Sinckler and some feet to shoot inches from the line to set up his winger to him. Ford could not add the conversion but in 24-0, England were well in control.
With the heat and humidity draining the legs, more space were opening up and Ruaridh McConnochie went for his first England attempt after some large carries.
Ludlam has been the beneficiary of a Farrell-Ford combination to make the overlap from wide, giving reward for a good display to the flanker.
Quill became the first participant in the 2019 World Cup to be shipped off following a no-arms inexpensive shot but England may add their tally and an additional attempt.
Cokanasiga went to complete the rout however, the USA grabbed a late consolation score during substitute Campbell to go 45-7 down.
