Michail Antonio has shown a lack of chances during his teenaged years and financial issues left him on the brink of football.
The West Ham scored 26 goals for the Hammers and forward has embarked on his fifth time at the Premier League, during which time he has gathered 112 appearances.
The time at the English game’s highest degree of antonio is a far cry from his humble upbringing in football at Tooting & Mitcham United, where life’s pressures led him to question if he had been on the ideal route.
“For me personally to become a professional footballer, determination was key, off and on the pitch,” he told Sky Sports through the launch of Jacamo’s new effort.
“There was only point in my soccer career where I thought I was not going to make it. We did not have much money growing up and my dad said that football wasn’t a true job.
“I remember going home 1 day and telling my brother I was going to quit football because I was 17 and had been too old. My brother said he wouldn’t let me. He even got me my first pair of real boots and those were the boots I was able to become professional ”
As well as overcoming hardship from the pitch, Antonio had to conquer his share of struggles on it.
A lack of exposure to academy soccer left him behind his peers and lengthened his wait for the chance. He found further barriers obstructing his dream After the chance came.
However, as Antonio admits, overcoming those challenges has left him the player and person he is now.
“My best advice is to keep moving, keep pushing until you reach your goal,” the 29-year-old added. “Even in the event you really feel as if you’ve reached your peak, then you could always be improved.
“Once I have achieved something, I shall always push myself to achieve something different. As soon as I got into the reservations, I said I want to enter the team. I wanted to get into the Championship and then I needed to get into the Premier League when I got into the first group.
“it is a constant battle, you’ve got to show yourself to fresh players, new managers and the fans. I scored two goals and had 11 assists at the Championship and has been doing better than certain players in my place, but once I talked to Premier League supervisors, they informed me that I wasn’t consistent enough.
“Getting consistent enough to get into the Premier League has been my biggest challenge. I have kept needing to pick herself up and move.
“Since I didn’t move through the academy system, I missed out on a lot of the method work so I would go out early before and after instruction to get to the stage I am at.
“Now I have played nine unique clubs, I am in the Premier League and I’ve been called up to England.”
