The Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju of india has requested the authorities to intervene within the elimination of shooting against the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
India won seven gold medals from the sport in the 2018 Games on the Gold Coast, Australia.
But it’s been excluded from the Games for the first time since 1970.
At a letter into Nicky Morgan, he wrote:”The public takes keen interest in shooting.”
His correspondence with the secretary of state Digital, Culture, Media and Sport also noticed that India constitutes over half 2.4 billion population of the 53-nation Commonwealth.
While he added that”the worldwide Mobility Federation [ISSF] has provided to discuss the fee for inclusion of shooting in Birmingham.
“It appears the choice to exclude shooting is based on the premise that shooting hadn’t ever been a compulsory sport and there’s absolutely no place available for holding shooting events.”
Shooting has been included in every Games besides one since 1966 (Edinburgh from 1970), but isn’t among the event’s’core sports’.
Shooting – along with archery, beach volleyball, cricket and Para-table golfing – voiced its desire.
An assessment panel comprised of representatives from national and local authorities, as well as the organising committee and Commonwealth England of Birmingham 2022, was setup to evaluate each game’s case.
However, in June, Birmingham 2022 declared that Para-table tennis, only beach volleyball and women’s cricket had been successful.
The move has proved highly contentious, if the game is not reinstated together with India threatening to boycott the event.
India topped the desk for shooting the 2018 Games in Australia, claiming 16 medals in the area as a portion of their overall tally of 66 medals.
