The Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju of india has asked the British authorities to intervene the removal of shooting from the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham over.
India won seven gold medals from the game at the 2018 Games.
But it’s been excluded from the Games.
In a letter to Nicky Morgan, he wrote:”The Indian public takes keen interest .”
His correspondence with the secretary of state for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport also reported that India makes up more than half 2.4 billion people of the 53-nation Commonwealth.
While he also added that”the worldwide Mobility Federation [ISSF] has offered to share the price for addition of shooting in Birmingham.
“It appears the decision to exclude shooting is based on the grounds that shooting hadn’t ever been a sport that is compulsory and there’s absolutely not any place available for holding shooting events.”
Shooting has been included in each Games apart from one since 1966 (Edinburgh in 1970), but isn’t among their event’s’core sports’.
Last calendar year, shooting – along with archery, beach volleyball, cricket and tennis – expressed its desire to become part of these Games.
An assessment panel comprised of representatives from national and local government, as well as the organising committee and Commonwealth England of Birmingham 2022, was set up to evaluate each game’s case.
But in June, Birmingham 2022 announced that beach volleyball, Para-table tennis and women’s cricket was successful.
The move has proved highly contentious, when the game isn’t reinstated with all India threatening to boycott the event.
India topped the desk for shooting at the 2018 Games in Australia, asserting 16 medals in the discipline as part of their overall tally of 66 awards.
