WBSS final: Lawrence Okolie ready to step up to European level

Lawrence Okolie has revealed he jumped at the chance to challenge Yves Ngabu for the cruiserweight title.
Okolie will take on the Regis Prograis-Josh Taylor undercard at The O2 on October 26 on Ngabu, live on Sky Sports Box Office.
The Hackney fighter, that has won 13 of his fights and picked up both the British and Commonwealth titles as joining the ranks in 2017, did not hesitate when offered the chance to measure up in class against the Belgian.
“I just think that if you are young and competent [to combat ] then you should do,” explained Okolie through Monday’s press conference.
“This is going to be the next winner I’ve boxed. I’ve defeated the Commonwealth champion, I have defeated the British champion and I am excited about beating the European winner.
“He’s got a excellent team. I’ve heard a lot of interviews , I like how he speaks confidently.
“I’m just excited about putting myself in training camp and going to get the job done.
“It is going to become very, very good, very exciting. He has got a kind of style that is contrary to mine.
“He is a come-forward fighter but he also knows how to ship. He has good power punching and various other stuff like that, so there’s going to be a good deal of stuff I’m going to need to manage at the night, but that I can cope with each one these professionally.”
Ngabu (20-0, KOs 14) will soon be fighting for the very first time outside his native Belgium however, the 30-year-old is confident of successfully defending his title for the third time.
“He [Okolie] is a good fighter. He’s tall, he’s powerful and what until he did great, but I think I can beat him and that I believe I am more powerful than him and we’ll find on October 26,” explained Ngabu.
