UFC president Dana White talked to reporters following UFC Fight Night 150 and answered their queries. Here Is What the boss guy had to say in response to the MMA media’s questions:
The incentive for”Battle of the Night” went to Mike Perry vs. Alex Oliveira, while”Performance of the Night” bonuses moved to veterans Glover Teixeira and Jim Miller. White admitted handing out FOTN was a tough choice considering how good the primary affair between Jack Hermansson and Ronaldo”Jacare” Souza was, but finally said the matchmakers reached a unanimous choice to give the incentive to Perry and Oliveira.
White reported the UFC reserved Hermansson against Souza since they think he’s talented, and said he was pleased with the fact”The Joker” was prepared to go to the floor with Souza. He explained Souza’s strength in the matchup also impressed him, but finally he didn’t get the win.
Hermansson’s win puts him at the title combination at 185lbs, but not before UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker and interim UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya try to unify the belt after this year. It’s reasonable to state that Hermansson will need at least one more big-name win until he fights for the middleweight belt.
White said he wasn’t a lover of this event between Dmitry Smoliakov and Greg Hardy. He explained the UFC doesn’t do setup fights, despite what fans and press were saying online about this particular fight, but said he had been really disappointed in Smoliakov’s functionality. He’d add that Hardy came in good shape for the struggle and did his job from getting the win, but White was very critical of Smoliakov’s padded 9-2 record coming into the struggle.
The timing of this NFL draft didn’t have a thing related to Hardy being on the crowed. It was since it had been at Florida and Hardy trains in American Top Team, according to White.
The UFC was pleased with the presence and gate and strategies on coming back to Florida at some stage.
White said the UFC is going to Mexico and Puerto Rico. The company is considering property and is putting out a business plan for both nations. The UFC is trying to”kickstart the marketplace” by constructing a performance institute at Puerto Rico, to provide jobs to individuals impacted by the hurricanes.
White credited American Top Team proprietor Dan Lambert for spending cash to grow the Florida regional MMA scene.
White said he had been impressed by Perry’s functionality, and praised how he remained composed against Oliveira even if he was hurt. The UFC is quite high on Perry and this win over Oliveira could push him to the top-15.
The UFC was designed to match with Conor McGregor in Miami, but will instead meet with him in Los Angeles shortly.
Tony Ferguson has no return date set but White stated he wants to book him as soon as he is cleared to fight.
White said the UFC’s choice to go to Miami or Ft. Lauderdale the next time they go to Florida will depend on who fights on the card.
